EMLG/JMLG2004会議報告

　2004年のEMLG／JMLG会議は、「Complex Liquids?Fundamental Properties to Industrial Applications」のテーマで英国Sheffield Hallam 大学のJack Yarwood教授とWarwick大学のMark Rodger教授の共同で組織された。2004年9月3日(金)夜〜7日(火)午前の期間、ヨーロッパや海外からおよそ80名の研究者や学生が英国Sheffield Hallam 大学に集まった。日本からはJMLGメンバーを含めて12名が参加した(敬称略；大瀧仁志、野村浩康、岡田正、菅野等、冨永敏弘、山口敏男、鳥居肇、脇坂昭弘、西山桂、吉田亨次、佐藤高彰、深沢敏子)。会議は3日(金)夕方のレセプションから始まり、全員で夕食をとった後、Dominic Tildesley教授(Unilever Research)がAfter-dinner keynote lecture(1時間)を行った。４日間の会議を通じて、14名の招待講演(45分)および11名の口頭発表(30分)、2回のポスター発表があった。会議の小テーマと招待講演者と講演題目は以下のとおり。

　Gordon会議とは異なり、連日午後もセッションが組まれていた。夜のセッションはEMLG総会以外はなかった。ポスターセッションの時間は会期中に３回組まれていたが、いずれも昼食時間後や夕食時間前であったのであまり落ち着いてみる時間がなかった。3日目の午後に院生や若手の研究者がポスター内容を口頭発表する機会を設けた(上記のSession 5)。日本からは深沢敏子さん(早稲田大院生)が研究発表を行った。どの発表者(自分で応募)も堂々と自分の研究を発表しており、若い研究者を奨励するよい機会になった。日曜日午後は、会議エクスカーションがあり、好天気に恵まれ、Peak DistrictにあるHaddon Hall（11世紀の領主の家と庭）の見学と散策を楽しんだ。

　会議の伝統行事として、３件のポスター賞が若い研究者(大学院生やポスドク)に授与された。受賞者には、賞状の他に副賞として125Euroおよび3年間のEMLG/JMLG会費が無料の特典がJMLGチェアマンである山口敏男により授与された。3名の受賞者と研究発表題目は以下のとおり。

　EMLG/JMLG International Advisory Committee会議は9月5日(日)夕食後に、総会は9月6日(月)午後Session５終了後に開催された。2005年EMLG会議は、Ivo Neabveda教授により2005年9月4日〜8日にPrague近くのCzech Agriculture 大で開催される。会議の詳細は、URL;http://www.icpf.cas.cz/theory/emlg/に掲載される予定。EMLGのロゴが電子投票の結果、Simon Schroedle氏によるものに決定した。ロゴマークは http://www.lsmc.u-bordeaux.fr/EMLG/logo/を参照。Palinkas教授のEMLGチェアマンの第1期が2004年会議で任期が終了したが、投票の結果再選された。書記のP.Bopp教授と会計のM.Musso教授は2005年の会議で任期が終了する。これまでInternational Advisory CommitteeメンバーであったRuth Lynden-Bell教授およびJohn Dore教授は定年を迎えられ、当人の希望によりAdvisory Committeeの業務から解任された。P. Mark Rodger博士がInternational Committeeの新メンバーとして迎えられた。JMLGチェアマンが脇田久伸教授から山口敏男教授への変更が承認された。これに伴い、International Advisory Committeeメンバーとして脇田教授を解任して、山口教授が迎えられた。本会議を主催したJack Yarwood教授は本年度末で定年を迎える。彼は、EMLG創設者の1人であり、1981‐83に最初の書記を務めた。また、1992‐1995までチェアマンを務め、1983年のFirenze、2004年Sheffieldの会議の委員長として働いた。Palinkas教授は総会においてYarwood教授の特別な貢献と協力に対して感謝した。
